With the help of our friend, Ed Felker, we located a Hungarian wirehaired Vizsla puppy who was living with her breeder in British Columbia and we jumped at the chance to purchase/adopt her. After some communication, we were able to arrange to get her flown in to Pittsburgh on Monday. If you've ever tried to import a dog, you'll probably be familiar with the ordeal we encountered. Two missed flights, a weekend stay at a doggie hotel courtesy of Canadian Air, and a rainy trip to Pittsburgh and back finally resulted in bringing our Sophie home.
When we finally got our hands on her, she was afraid and probably traumatized after an overnight flight, and she seemed anxious but quite happy to be in some loving arms. During the long drive home, I cuddled her like a baby and comforted her. We formed a bond in those hours that I hope lasts many, many years. I felt a real physical sense of love I can't say I've experienced with an animal before.
To say my husband is a happy man would be a great understatement. He has wanted a dog for a very long time and I have been hesitant because of our not pleasant experience with Murray, our first dog. It took me a long time to find a breed which I could be excited about.
So now we have added to our family a new member and, while this week has been an adjustment (and I'm sure it will continue to be as we get used to each other), Ed and I feel very fortunate to have such a sweet pup.
