I don't really know what specifically inspired my latest creative effort, but I know it could have been any one of three things; finding a blue robin's egg in the garden with Hannah this spring and marveling at the rich, beautiful blue color, or the day Blake and I were collecting decorating books for her to borrow and talking about decorating her new house, or the day Chelsea borrowed my serving pieces for a bridal shower and we came upon boxes in the basement full of my milk glass collection, some of which she ended up using and I fell in love with again. I think it was a conglomeration of these things, but in any case I have seldom used blue in my home decorating- I'm more of a warm red, gold and green kind of girl.
But the idea sprang up in the back of my mind that a gorgeous peacock or robin's egg blue would be a spectacular backdrop for my milk glass and it was a shame to have my collection put away. Having Tavia leave for her last year of college (and her first year as a civilian since she graduated from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets last spring and no longer has to live in dorms), and asking me for things to decorate her new house sealed the deal. I told her to take everything from the larger guest room and she was thrilled. I knew I could not stand an empty room for long and it would get me started.
I finally talked Ed into my idea, although he often jokes that we lost valuable square footage in our former home due to my excessive painting and decorating. Today, before I woke up, Ed had the room prepared and cleared out (he's such a trooper!). It didn't take long for us to paint two coats. I haven't finished the room because I just ordered a gorgeous white scalloped edged quilt and shams, and I'm having a friend make a custom dust ruffle and sham in a beautiful fabric, so I will wait to post photos of the finished room and that may take awhile. But I was so excited about the color and how warm and inviting the room was that I had to post a few photos. I want to sleep up there tonight!
