Handmade quilt

My grandmother stitched this by hand from scraps of fabric she always had around. I adore it. She made quilts for us all the time, in addition to reupholstering our furniture, making smocked throw pillows, embroidering linens, and crocheting things like doilies (I'm lucky to have a few of these as well). She taught me to crochet and I still love to do it. I never learned the art of sewing and I really wish I had. Maybe that's one of those things I will start taking classes for now that our kids are all on their own.

Gran also taught me how to make homemade biscuits and fried apples. I still love them. Her taffy tan fudge and Hawaiian Salad are family favorites at the holidays, and I make her dang good pie from time to time. She always grew flowers around her home, and indoors tended her beautiful African violets and house plants so that they were just gorgeous.
Every day she ate on lovely dogwood blossom design china dishes that she hand-washed (she never owned a dishwasher). I inherited those dishes and one day, when I have more time on my hands for hand-washing, I will put them to good use once again.
